Let’s talk about procrastination.

Let’s talk about procrastination. You know the feeling, right?

Most of us have had the experience: There’s something we should do, maybe even something we want to do, but it’s so hard to get started. Things just get in the way. We get distracted. We try to push ourselves, but that just kind of makes it worse. Eventually we get around to it, but it feels like slogging through molasses. And usually it’s fine once we actually do get started. We probably even enjoy the doing of it. It’s just getting there that can be such a strain.

When I talk about what it feels like when flower essences work, I usually describe it as the sense that the negative feelings just sort of evaporate.

In the case of procrastination, what is it that’s holding us back? Fear of failure? Fear of success? Feeling that we’re overloaded? Feeling we’re not good enough? All those things get in the way. And essences can help in all those areas.

Here’s an example:

I have some projects that I’ve been excited about, but lately I’ve had a lot of trouble pulling myself together and focusing. So a couple of days ago I made myself a flower essence blend.

It wasn’t the best blend I’d ever made. I put in too many things. I wasn’t entirely sure that all the things that I put in were really exactly right.

But I made it. And I took it. It’s hard to prescribe for yourself, and I kept kind of feeling it wasn’t the right thing. But I kept taking it.

One day later, I found myself getting sucked into doing exactly the things I’d been procrastinating. I started figuring out how to set up online booking for my different businesses. I started writing text for this post.

I wasn’t pushing through the resistance I usually have. The resistance just wasn’t there. Instead, I was being pulled by my desire to do my projects rather than beating myself up about how I “should” be working on the projects.

This is one reason I love flower essences: There’s almost no work to it. Once you start taking them, they do the heavy lifting for you, and you just get to live.

(Caveat: Essences won’t scrub your toilet or cook you a healthy dinner. And yes, you can fight the changes they’re working to help you with. But if you do want to clear negative patterns, essences can make a huge difference.)

If you want to learn more about this, please keep reading. Or, if you’d like, book a consultation online or in my Portland clinic and we’ll see how flower essences can work for you.

PS. Curious about my formula? Here’s what I put in it, with links to descriptions of each essence’s actions. Note also that this is the blend I needed, for the specific struggles I was addressing. Essences work on the person, not their “problem.” This is by no means a first-line combination for procrastination. It’s just a blend that worked for me given my needs at the time.
